FIFA is preparing to propose an additional $3.4 billion in funding for global football development.
The organization intends to draw on its reserves for this purpose, a move that would more than double the amount of funding planned for the period between 2027 and 2030.
FIFA asserts its ability to secure these additional funds thanks to the commercial success of this summer's World Cup. The proposal will be presented at a FIFA Council meeting today, Thursday. This move comes at a time when the organization is facing pressure following the failure of President Gianni Infantino's plan. FIFA will provide additional funds from its reserves, supplementing the existing budget of $2.7 billion allocated to its 211 member associations, continental and regional confederations, and some non-FIFA federations.
FIFA's total spending on football development during the 2027-2030 cycle will reach $6.35 billion, with a focus on investing in and developing women's and youth football.
