Youth Olympic Games "Dakar 2026": Presentation of the Olympic flame in Dakar

Yesterday, Saturday, the torch of the Youth Olympic Games "Dakar 2026" was presented in the Senegalese capital, seven weeks before the start of this sporting event, which is the first of its kind to be organized on the African continent.

The Olympic flame was lit last Thursday in the Greek capital, Athens, before it was presented to Senegalese President Passero Diomay Fay, in the presence of International Olympic Committee President Kirsty Coventry, amid a festive atmosphere with public participation.

On this occasion, President Faye expressed the hope that the participants in this sporting event “leaving this place will retain the impression that African youth are full of energy, that they are tall, determined and proud.”

The flame will embark on a journey extending 3,600 kilometers across the fourteen regions of Senegal. The torch journey will conclude on October 30, the eve of the opening of the games scheduled from October 31 to November 13.

The Youth Olympic Games “Dakar 2026” will bring together about 2,700 athletes, no more than 17 years old, who will compete in about twenty sports disciplines, thus constituting a first historic station for Africa, which will host, on this occasion, the first Olympic event on its soil.
