US President Donald Trump on Monday denounced a "sinister plot" targeting artificial intelligence, amid growing calls to slow its development due to the potential threat it poses to humanity, particularly from the heads of leading companies in the field.
Trump insists that the US must maintain its lead in AI by preventing China from gaining the upper hand.
In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump wrote, "The only safeguard or 'safety barrier' AI needs is a strong, smart president with a high IQ! And the USA has plenty of those!"
Last week, Trump repeatedly criticized warnings from US technology leaders about the risks associated with the rapid development of AI, arguing that imposing controls on the process would give China an advantage.
In his post, Trump added, "There is a sinister plot against AI and data centers, and China is the only one who benefits from it."
"Whoever wins the AI race wins everything! We are ahead of China and everyone else in this field, and we will stay ahead. To the conspiracy theorists, agents, traitors, and leakers, watch out!" Trump continued.
He specifically attacked Anthropic CEO Dario Amode, who has called for slowing down the pace of AI development, a position supported by Sam Altman, his counterpart at OpenAI (the developer of ChatGPT), and Elon Musk.
The Trump administration has stopped AI "experts" from doing bad things, including Dario (Anthropic!), who is now trying to portray himself as a "perfect little angel."
During his visit to Ireland this past weekend, Trump repeatedly reiterated his rejection of calls to regulate the pace of AI development in response to journalists' questions.
Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One on Sunday, Trump said he had heard the concerns of technology experts directly last week.
When asked whether he was downplaying the concerns raised, he stated, "No, we are not downplaying them. But we know that the benefits (of this technology) will far outweigh the harms."
