Russia announces it has taken control of two more villages in southern Ukraine

The Russian military announced Sunday that it had captured two villages in southern Ukraine, where its forces continue their slow advance, exploiting their numerical superiority along the broad front line.

The Russian Defense Ministry said via Telegram that its forces had taken control of the towns of Rovnopolye and Malaya Tokmachka in the Zaporizhzhia region, after announcing earlier this week the capture of two other villages there.

While military operations on the Zaporizhzhia front have been less intense than those in the east, the numerically and materially superior Russian forces continue to make territorial gains in the region.

In the east, the fighting is aimed at capturing the strategic city of Pokrovsk, which hundreds of Russian soldiers have managed to enter in recent weeks, breaching Ukrainian defenses.

Peace negotiations between Kyiv and Moscow are completely stalled, especially after the cancellation of a planned summit between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin in Budapest.
