Flydubai signs agreement with Boeing to purchase 75 aircraft worth $13 billion

Flydubai announced in a statement Wednesday that it has signed a memorandum of understanding with Boeing to purchase 75 737 MAX aircraft worth $13 billion, a day after signing its first-ever agreement to purchase Airbus aircraft. This move is expected to more than double the size of its fleet.

The UAE-based low-cost carrier signed the agreement with Boeing on the third day of the Dubai Airshow. The agreement includes "a firm order for 75 MAX aircraft worth $13 billion and an option to purchase an additional 75 aircraft," according to the statement.

In just two days, the Dubai-based airline announced agreements for orders of more than 200 aircraft between Boeing and Airbus, as part of its ambitious expansion plans.

Flydubai's fleet currently includes more than 90 Boeing 737 aircraft.

"Reliable aircraft availability and a consistent delivery schedule are vital to the continued growth of our industry," said Flydubai Chairman Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum. "This agreement ensures we remain well-positioned for future growth by adding more aircraft to our fleet and replacing existing ones."

Boeing is seeking to move past a period marked by fatal crashes, lawsuits, a strike in its defense division, and delivery delays.

The American aircraft manufacturer revealed last month a $5.4 billion loss in the third quarter, due to massive additional costs stemming from the delayed certification of its 777X aircraft.

On Tuesday, Flydubai announced its first preliminary order from Airbus for 150 firm orders for the A321neo aircraft, with deliveries scheduled to begin in 2031.

That same day, Flydubai signed an agreement with SpaceX to provide Starlink high-speed internet services on its fleet, a day after Emirates announced the launch of Elon Musk's satellite-based network.

Emirates also unveiled an order on Monday for 65 Boeing aircraft worth $38 billion at the biennial Dubai Airshow, the largest airshow in the Middle East.
