English Championship..City add to Liverpool's woes with a crushing victory over the defending champions

 Manchester City compounded Liverpool's woes and those of their Dutch manager, Arne Sloat, with a resounding 3-0 victory over the defending champions on Sunday in the 11th round of the English Premier League.

Liverpool entered the match hoping to build on their recent resurgence, having secured a 2-0 win against Aston Villa after four consecutive league defeats, and their midweek 1-0 victory over Real Madrid in the Champions League.

However, City decided to gift their Spanish manager, Pep Guardiola, a valuable and emphatic win in his 1,000th match as a manager, including 550 with City, whom he took charge of in the summer of 2016, giving him his 716th career victory.

With their seventh win of the season and fourth consecutive victory across domestic and European competitions, City reclaimed second place from Chelsea, raising their points tally to 22, four points behind leaders Arsenal, who stumbled on Saturday with a 2-2 draw against Sunderland. Liverpool remain on 18 points in eighth place, behind Tottenham, Aston Villa, and Manchester United on goal difference.

City started the match in the best possible way, winning a penalty after Belgian player Jeremy Doku was brought down by Georgian goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili. However, Mamardashvili redeemed himself by denying Haaland the opening goal (13).

City were unfazed by this missed opportunity and continued to press and create chances, particularly through the impressive Doku, who came close to opening the scoring in the 27th minute, but Mamardashvili made a brilliant save.

Ultimately, Haaland was on target again, heading home a cross from Portuguese midfielder Matheus Nunes (29), bringing his league tally to 14 goals this season and 19 in 15 appearances across all competitions.

Liverpool thought they had equalized in the 38th minute when Dutch defender Virgil van Dijk headed in a corner, but the goal was disallowed for offside against Scottish defender Andy Robertson, who was deemed to have interfered with play and affected Italian goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma.

As the first half drew to a close, Spaniard Nico González delivered a near-fatal blow to Liverpool, adding a second goal with a long-range shot after a pass from Portuguese midfielder Bernardo Silva (45+3).

Liverpool improved in the second half and came close to reducing the deficit through substitute Dutchman Coady Kakpo, whose shot from a tight angle went just wide of the right post (59).

But City dashed their hopes when Doku added a third goal in the 63rd minute, capping off his impressive performance with a stunning curling shot from outside the box into the top left corner of Mamardashvili's net.

Liverpool tried desperately in the remaining minutes but were unsuccessful, and the score remained unchanged until the final whistle.

- Forest finally secures second win -

Nottingham Forest finally secured their second league win of the season, defeating Leeds United 3-1 at home.

The appointment of Sean Dyche on October 21st, replacing Australian Ange Postecoglou, who lasted just 39 days after taking over from Portuguese Nuno Espirito Santo, seems to have paid off, as the team has collected four points in two Europa League matches and four points in three Premier League games under his leadership.

Despite securing their first win since defeating Brentford 3-1 on August 17th, Forest, who finished seventh last season, remain in 19th place with 9 points, compared to Leeds United's 11 points after suffering their sixth defeat. Forest had taken the lead through German Lukas Nmecha (13), but Forest rallied to win 3-1 thanks to goals from Ivorian Ibrahim Sangaré (15), Morgan Gibbs-White (68), and Elliott Anderson (90+1 penalty).

Aston Villa stayed close to the top of the table with their fifth win of the season, a resounding 4-0 victory over Bournemouth. The goals came from Argentinian Emiliano Buendía (28), Belgian Amadou Onana (40), Ross Barkley (77), and Dutchman Donyell Malen (82). Bournemouth missed a penalty through Ghanaian Antoine Simeone (67).

Unai Emery's team moved up to sixth place with 18 points, level on points with Manchester United, Liverpool, and Bournemouth, but ahead on goal difference, and behind Tottenham.

Newcastle, who finished fifth last season, continued their slide with their fifth defeat, this time at the hands of Brentford. Harvey Barnes opened the scoring for Newcastle in the 27th minute, but Brentford responded with three goals from Kevin Schade (56th minute) and Igor Tiago (78th and 90+5 minutes). Newcastle were reduced to ten men after Dan Burn received his second yellow card in the 73rd minute.

Eddie Howe's side remain in 14th place, just two points above the relegation zone and four points behind 12th-placed Brentford.

Crystal Palace stayed in 10th place, one point ahead of Brighton, after a goalless draw at home against the latter.
