Turkish Airlines announces order for 225 aircraft from Boeing

Turkish Airlines announced on Friday that it had placed a firm order for 225 aircraft from Boeing, the day after welcoming the Turkish President to the White House for the first time since 2019.

The order includes 150 aircraft to be delivered between 2029 and 2034, with an option to purchase another 75, the company said in a statement, without specifying the value of the deal.

The company's statement said, "The Board of Directors has decided to purchase a total of 75 B787-9 and B787-10 aircraft from Boeing, with 50 firm orders and an option to purchase another 25, with delivery dates between 2029 and 2034," as well as "150 737-8/10 MAX aircraft, including 100 firm orders and an option for another 50."

The company indicated that negotiations are underway with Rolls-Royce and GA Aerospace to obtain engines and maintenance services for the B-787.

The company confirmed, "Through these orders, we aim to equip our entire fleet with next-generation aircraft by 2035, while enhancing efficiency and supporting 6% annual growth."

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan held two-hour talks with his US counterpart, Donald Trump, at the White House on Thursday. This was the Turkish president's first visit to the US presidential palace since 2019.

The administration of former US President Joe Biden declined to receive Erdoğan at the White House.

In December 2023, Turkish Airlines announced an order for 355 aircraft from Airbus, Boeing's main European competitor.
