A study conducted by scientists from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) revealed that walking for more than an hour and a half daily at a comfortable pace contributes to reducing the risk of chronic lower back pain by up to 23 percent.
The results of the study, which included 11,194 people who used sensors to measure their daily walking intensity, showed that the regularity and duration of walking are more important than its intensity. This makes long-distance walking an effective means of preventing musculoskeletal disorders, which are among the most common causes of disability in Norway and the world.
Numerous studies have also agreed that walking offers many health benefits, including maintaining cardiovascular health, enhancing the strength and activity of blood circulation, and boosting the immune system. It also reduces body fat and burns calories, thus contributing to weight loss, especially during brisk walking.
