Qatar announced that it will hold funerals in the capital, Doha, on Thursday for the victims of the unprecedented Israeli bombing that targeted Hamas officials in the Gulf state earlier this week.
The Qatari Ministry of Interior said in a statement on the X platform, "The Ministry of Interior announces that the funeral prayers for the martyrs of the Israeli attack (...) will be held on the afternoon of Thursday, September 11, 2025, at the Sheikh Muhammad ibn Abd al-Wahhab Mosque, and they will be buried in the Mesaimeer Cemetery."
Israel bombed Doha on Tuesday, targeting Hamas leaders. However, the movement said its senior officials survived, while five of its members were killed, in addition to a member of the Qatari security forces.
Hamas stated that the dead included Hamam, the son of the movement's chief negotiator, Khalil al-Hayya; his office director, Jihad Labbad; and his bodyguards, Ahmed Mamlouk, Abdullah Abdul Wahid, and Moamen Hassan.
Qatari Corporal Badr Saad Muhammad al-Humaidi al-Dosari was also killed.
In an interview with CNN on Wednesday, Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani said he could not confirm the fate of the hostages.
The Prime Minister considered the attack to have ended all hope regarding the hostages in Gaza, stressing that Qatar was "reevaluating everything" regarding its role as a key mediator in talks between Israel and Hamas.
Doha had hosted several rounds of indirect negotiations between the two sides.
Qatar has hosted the movement's political bureau since 2012 with the blessing of Washington, which has sought to maintain a channel of communication with the movement.
Sheikh Mohammed said he hoped for a collective regional response to the attack, and that an Arab-Islamic conference would be held in Doha to decide on the next steps.
The initial Israeli strikes in the Gulf shocked a region that had long kept aloof from Middle Eastern conflicts and sparked widespread international condemnation.
The former head of Hamas's political bureau, Ismail Haniyeh, was previously buried in Qatar after being assassinated by Israel in Tehran in July 2024.
