Microsoft announces a new update to the Photos app in Windows 11

Microsoft has announced a new update to the Photos app in Windows 11 for Insiders beta program subscribers.

This update aims to make managing large photo libraries easier by leveraging artificial intelligence. The app can now analyze photos stored on the device and automatically create categories for screenshots, receipts, identity documents, and notes, providing a faster way to navigate the photo library.

These new categories appear in a submenu in the sidebar and can also be accessed through the search bar, even if the images are written in different languages.

The company explained in a statement that the automated categorization can sometimes be incorrect, so it has enabled users to manually edit categories and provide feedback. It noted that the app currently supports only four categories, and the feature is limited to Copilot+ devices equipped with advanced AI processors.

In addition to the smart classification feature, the update brings Super Resolution, which improves image sharpness on Copilot+ devices equipped with Qualcomm Snapdragon X processors, AMD Ryzen AI processors, and Intel Core Ultra 200 Series processors.
