The United States retained its title in the 4x400m mixed relay after finishing first on Saturday at the 20th World Athletics Championships in Tokyo.
The U.S. team, comprising Bryce Dedmon, Lena Irby-Jackson, Genoa McAver, and Alexis Holmes, completed the race in 3:08.80, matching their world championship best time set in Budapest two years ago. The Netherlands, the Paris Olympic champions, took silver (3:09.96), and Belgium took bronze (3:10.61). Two years ago in Budapest, the Americans broke the world record in this event by forcing the Dutchwoman Femke Pohl to make a mistake while leading, causing her to lose her balance and fall just meters from the finish line.
